Retrofitting of the National Theatre of Greece, (1st stage)

The preliminary design has been performed on behalf of the ‘National Theatre Organization’. The design aims on the one hand to the retrofitting of the preservable building (designed by Ziller in 1891) and on the other to the upgrade of the functional capabilities of the theatre. The retrofitting and strengthening of the existing structures includes both the preservable masonry structure as well as the more recently built secondary R/C buildings. Updating of the functional capabilities of the theatre includes amongst others the considerable increase in size of the ‘Central Stage’. The proposed ‘Tower’ is a steel structure and a considerable part of it is supported on the existing R/C underground parking facilities of the National Theatre.
