Gennadios Library Underground Amendment, West Wing

The project consists of the construction of a new building and the reconstruction of the existing West Wing of Gennadios Library.

The new building is a two storey underground structure that shall accommodate a new museum (upper floor) and a book storage area (lower floor). The electrical substation of the whole complex is also situated in the new building.

The West Wing reconstruction involves the deep foundation and strengthening of the existing outer shell of the building, reconstruction of the two basement levels to lower elevations as well as reconstruction of the superstructure levels.

The project as a whole is constructed adjacent to the sensitive masonry preservable buildings of Genndios Library. Therefore, temporary retaining structures, deep foundations and monitoring and phasing of construction have been thoroughly taken into consideration during the structural design.
