Krakow Multipurpose Arena, Poland

The Krakow Arena is a multipurpose sports hall, covering a broad range of indoor based sports activities and other functions. It has a seating capacity of approximately 15,000 spectators consisting of 10,000 permanent and 5,000 retractable seats and plan dimensions of 144.60m x 121.90m. The bowl and the underground structures are R/C while the roof structure is constructed with structural steel supported at the two longitudinal sides of the arena. The adopted roof structural system consists of eight suspended truss girders spaced at 16m apart with spans ranging from 91m to 104m. All the main suspension cables have parabolic shape and are connected to inverted ‘V’- shape masts with heights that vary from 16m to 19m. The analysis accounted for both the 2nd order effects as well as the material non-linearities.
