Zagreb Arena, Croatia
Zagreb Arena has been designed within the framework of the preparation of Croatia for World Handball Championship in 2009. The arena is multifunctional, for many sports such as boxing, handball, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, indoors athletics, ice skating etc. Minimum capacity is 10,000 seats for athletics competitions, and maximum with over 25,000 seats for concerts. For handball matches during the World Championship 2009 capacity was around 16,000 seats. The design has been performed together with local design offices. The structural system of the arena consists of an R/C superstructure supporting a cable suspended steel roof. Eighteen prestressed main cables suspend equal number of girders through secondary cables. All main suspension cables have parabolic shapes and are connected to prestressed concrete curved elements. The analysis of the structure accounted for both the 2nd order effects as well as the material non-linearities.
